The Annunciation

A beautiful holiday is approaching, in the Christian world, that of the Annunciation. It is celebrated every year on March 25, exactly nine months before Christmas, when the Archangel Gabriel announced to the Virgin Mary that he would give birth to Jesus.

We want to mark this special day with two icons from the exhibition of the project ”Innovative techniques in Cultural Heritage Valorisation. The icons from the Sebeș Valley in the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography collection”, a project of the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography made in partnership with the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca and the Norwegian organization NUDA AS, project funded by the EEA Grants 2014 – 2021, within the RO- CULTURE.

The icons date from the beginning of the 20th century, in the centre of Laz. As a technique, the outline was drawn with ink on the back of the glass, with the pen, after a model. The painting of the surfaces was done with tempera, and the frame is of resinous essence, profiled and painted. Both icons can be seen in the exhibition organized within the project, at the headquarters of the Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania (str. Memorandumului no. 21).
