The icon is part of the innovative exhibition realized within the project ”Innovative techniques in Cultural Heritage Valorisation. The icons from the Sebeș Valley in the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography collection”, a project of the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography made in partnership with the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca and the Norwegian organization NUDA AS, project funded by the EEA Grants 2014 – 2021, within the RO- CULTURE.
The icon we present today is painted in the technique of icons on glass (on its back). The drawing, made after an model turned “in the mirror”, is outlined in ink. The painting technique is tempera with egg emulsion. The painted glass is placed in a wooden frame, and for protection, on the back of the glass, a wooden cover is applied.
The icon dates from the second half of the 19th century and its origin is the centre of Laz. The author of the icon: Pavel Zamfir. Dimensions: 52.5 cm x 45.7 cm.
